Danes cycling Norway's mountains
Every year Finn Hansen from Hobro, Denmark, travels with collegues from the Danish State Railways to Norway to cycle the mountains. In 1999 I was fortunate enough to be invited. Apart from wrong choice of bike - I rode my touring bike which was much to heavy compared to the 8,5 kg carbon bikes some of the Danes had - it was a wonderful trip. The tour started in Fagernes, over the Valdresflya mountain plateau down to Lom, and the following day over the Sognefjell mountain (more than 1400 m at the road's highest point) down to Sogndal by the Sognefjord. For a lonely bird like me it was a luxury to have an accompanying minibus, and cooks who served meals along the road. It was still nice to say goodbye to the Danes and continue westward in a little slower pace.
